Exciting Update: Change of Venue for Our Upcoming Get-Together on August 30th!

We have some important news regarding our upcoming event. Initially, we planned to gather at Brierley Park on Friday, August 30th, 2024, but we’ve had to change the venue slightly.

New Location: Our get-together will now be held at Enablement Care Sutton In Ashfield, in our lovely garden space.

So, to recap:
Date: Friday, August 30th, 2024
Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Location: Enablement Care Garden, Brook Street, Sutton In Ashfield

We’ve planned a morning full of fun activities, engaging games, and delicious cream teas. It’s a wonderful opportunity for everyone who uses our services, along with their families, to come together and enjoy a relaxed and joyful time.

This event is made possible thanks to the generous contributions from our recent summer fair. Your support has enabled us to create this special occasion, and we can’t wait to share it with all of you.

Mark your calendars and get ready for a day filled with laughter, fun, and community spirit. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

The Community Hub – Delicious food and a great opportunity to develop social skills!

The Community Hub – Cooking Session: Last week’s cooking session was led by Cayton, with Abbie and Catherine assisting. We had a full house as everyone got involved in making chicken korma and Eton mess for dessert. The session ran smoothly, with everyone contributing to the cooking, washing, and drying of the dishes. We also focused on improving our chopping skills and meal presentation.

It was a fantastic experience, with delicious food and a great opportunity to develop social skills. The group had such a good time that they’ve already decided on the menu for next time: pie and chips with banana cake for dessert. Excellent work, everyone! It’s wonderful to see the progress and achievements being made.

Walking Club – Pleasley Vale

Last week’s walk took us around Pleasley Vale and its historic mills. The weather was beautiful, albeit a bit warm. We began at Meden Square and followed the river, walking downstream. The shade provided by the overhanging trees made the journey quite comfortable, and before long, we arrived at Pleasley Mills, a site rich in history. It wasn’t long before stories of ghosts started circulating among us.

We continued along the winding road, passing the old Vale village, and eventually reached the Mansfield Wildlife Centre, where we took a much-needed break for refreshments and enjoyed our packed lunches. The wildlife was a delight to see, although a cheeky raven tried to muscle in on our picnic. By this point, we had covered about two miles.

With the temperature rising, it made sense for two of us to fetch the minibus and car to collect the rest of our group from the centre and head home. All in all, it was a relaxing and informative walk, enjoyed by everyone.

Gardening Club – Weeding in the Summer Sun

AW and Anthony were at the allotment last week, while many were away on trips and holidays. After a two-week break to focus on the summer fair, AW wasted no time returning to work, giving the plants a much-needed drink in the warm summer sun.

Meanwhile, I took on the task of uncovering our cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, which had become hidden beneath a surprising amount of undergrowth. We weeded diligently to free our beloved plants.

We paused only a few times to hydrate with water, and by the end of the session, it was rewarding to step back and see how our patience and care were paying off—the plants were thriving!

Exhausted and hot, we returned to Enablement Care, where we were greeted with an ice-cold glass of tropicalade, a delicious tuna salad, and a refreshing strawberry mousse—a perfect way to unwind from the day’s efforts.
